Settlers of Catan game overview. For beginners starting the Settlers of Catan board game, the rules give a starting map for beginners to give a well balanced gameplay. Otherwise the hexagonal tiles can be laid out randomly and you play Settlers Catan with a different board each time.

The number tokens have a letter on each one and must be laid out on the terrain hexes in alphabetical order going counter-clockwise starting from the outside and ending in the center. For even more variation the Settlers Catan number tokens could be placed randomly on the land hexes, however the tokens with red numbers should not be next to each other, doing so could give a player an advantage and result in an unbalanced game.

There are five terrain types producing a different resource in Settlers Catan Game. Hills produce brick, pasture produces wool, mountains give ore, forest yields lumber and fields give harvest of grain.
Each player begins the game with two settlement and two roads. each settlement is worth one victory point, so you start out with 2 victory points and the first player to gain 10 victory points wins the game.
Acquire resources to build more settlements and upgrade them into
cities, which are worth 2 victory points each. Each player begins his turn by rolling the dice and that number rolled allows the terrain hex with that number to produce resources for which ever players have a settlement or city adjacent to it. Gameplay can be a little slow at the beginning as players must collect one of each resource of brick, wool, grain and lumber to build a new settlement, if you find yourself with too many of one type of resource, you can trade with other players. The player who trades the most can go on to be the winner.
